Ports of Kaohsiung and Gdynia deepen digital port ties
The Port of Kaohsiung has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Port of Gdynia to focus on smart port development, digitalisation, and operational efficiency.

Tsu-Chiang Chen, Harbor Master, Port of Kaohsiung, and Grzegorz Bławat, Deputy Director, Strategy and Market Development Office, Port of Gdynia, signed the MoU, with Chin-jung Wang, President, Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC), and Jacek Karnowski, Secretary of State, Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, Poland, acting as witnesses.

The Port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s largest commercial port, continues to serve as a major transhipment hub for Asia–Pacific container flows.

The Port of Gdynia is advancing its role as a deep-water Baltic gateway through ongoing infrastructure upgrades and smart port initiatives aimed at strengthening its position within Europe’s logistics network.

Under the agreement, both ports will develop structured cooperation mechanisms covering information exchange and joint initiatives across port operations.

Key focus areas include smart port transformation, security management systems, digital applications, and green port practices, including carbon reduction strategies.

The collaboration also extends to shipping and logistics stakeholders in both regions, with the aim of improving operational performance and strengthening international competitiveness.

The MoU provides for the exchange of best practices in port administration, digitalisation tools, and sustainability measures. Both sides intend to use these exchanges to support efficiency gains and enhance resilience across their respective supply chains.

Beyond operational alignment, the agreement is intended to support wider Asia–Europe trade connectivity.

The Port of Kaohsiung views the partnership as part of a broader effort to deepen cooperation between Taiwan and European ports, while supporting long-term growth in maritime trade flows between East Asia and Europe.

The two ports are also expected to jointly organise workshops, seminars, and delegation visits to facilitate technical exchange and deepen institutional cooperation across the maritime sector.
