Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has reported rapid uptake of its GPA Trucker mobile application since its launch in October 2025, with enrolment climbing from fewer than 900 to more than 4,000 users.
The authority is now coupling the tool with facial recognition technology at its busiest terminal gates.
The app provides on-terminal container locations via pinned positions visible relative to the driver’s own location, push notifications for digital gate transaction tickets, PIN management, gate hour alerts and weather updates. It supports biometric login through facial recognition and fingerprint authentication.
Griff Lynch, President and CEO of GPA, said: “We’re happy to see the trucking community using the app to streamline the driver experience. Truckers are our front-line customers. Faster turn times for them make our entire port operation more productive. Our goal is to make it easier for drivers to use our ports.”
Savannah’s terminals process more than 14,000 truck gate moves on an average weekday between 04:00 and 18:00.
Average turn times sit at 32 minutes for a single transaction and 50 minutes for dual moves combining export drop-offs and import pickups, figures Lynch said allow drivers serving local warehouses to complete six to eight trips daily.
The app replaces paper gate tickets with digital equivalents pushed directly to drivers’ phones, which can be stored on-device or forwarded to trucking companies.

The system also flags potential wasted trips, notifying drivers if a PIN has expired or an export container has been reassigned to a different vessel. PINs remain valid for 72 hours.
While app use remains optional at Garden City Terminal, Savannah’s largest facility, the smaller Ocean Terminal now operates exclusively on digital tickets.
On the hardware side, GPA has completed a trial of facial recognition at Garden City Terminal and is now rolling it out across all inbound lanes at Gate 3, the first phase of a wider deployment across all terminal gates.
The port noted that the app is available on iOS and Android.
