Despite limited availability of trucks due to a nation-wide diesel shortage, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SPLA) say port operations across the country are “moving flawlessly”.

Dr. Prasantha Jayamanna, Chairman of the authority, said the current diesel crisis in the country is “not really an issue” while appearing on national television.

The Sri Lankan economy has been severely hit since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Jayamanna, the Port of Colombo has seen consistent month-on-month growth in its volumes.

In 2021, the port handled 7.25 million TEU, a 6 per cent increase on its throughput in 2020.
