SITC opens new centre at Port of Qingdao

SITC International, a Hong Kong-based shipping logistics company, has inaugurated the SITC Global Shipping Logistics Center near the Port of Qingdao, China, to improve the trade and business environment along the New Silk Road.

Qingdao is an important hub for trade along the New Silk Road, China’s $1 trillion plan to improve trade between Asia and Europe.

SITC said the Qingdao Free Trade Zone, where the centre will be located, has built a world class business environment and an international shipping hub.

The company said it will actively develop of maritime and land-based smart logistics and digital logistics through artificial intelligence and big data.

The new centre will help Qingdao’s shipping, trade and financial coupling development and enhance SITC’s core competitiveness and accelerate its innovation strategy by establishing an intelligence warehouse and logistics base.

The Port of Qingdao is one of the fastest growing ports in China, with several smart technology projects designed to increase trade and transparency.

In July 2020 it announced it was close to completing the Qingdao Port Automatic Terminal Phase II after several berths passed inspection tests. The initiative is part of a wider movement to utilise smart technology.

In the same month it opened the Dongjiakou Port Area to improve the logistics chain in and out of the port area.
