All traffic through the Bosphorus Strait, which links the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, has been suspended due to a collision between a bulk carrier and a coast guard vessel, reported Reuters.

The collision occurred at approximately 8.40am local time on Wednesday August 17, 2016 and six people have been rescued from the sea after the coast guard boat sank where it was hit on the southern part of the strait.

This is one of a string of collisions that have occurred in the last fortnight, including the MSC vessel Alexandra colliding with a crude oil vessel in the Singapore Strait and a collision off the Port of Keihin which resulted in a diesel oil spill.

The recent increase in collisions comes amongst discussions about the use of navigation simulation in mega-ship handling to prevent such incidents.
