Contecon Manzanillo, the Mexican terminal operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has welcomed the inaugural call of MSC’s Sierra service.
Sierra is MSC’s second dedicated Far East–Mexico service, giving importers, exporters and logistics providers additional sailing options and greater supply chain flexibility.
The port rotation runs Qingdao – Tianjin – Busan – Manzanillo – Lázaro Cárdenas – Qingdao, improving access to key manufacturing markets in Northeast Asia.
The service’s launch coincides with the fourth phase of Contecon Manzanillo’s expansion project, an investment aimed at increasing terminal capacity and supporting sustained cargo growth at the Port of Manzanillo.

José Antonio Contreras, Chief Executive Officer of Contecon Manzanillo, said: “The arrival of this service reflects our commitment to strengthening the terminal’s operational capabilities and creating the conditions for greater connectivity.
“Our objective is to strengthen Manzanillo’s position as a preferred gateway for global shipping lines and international trade, as well as provide our customers with more efficient and reliable access to key markets.”
According to ASIPONA, the Port of Manzanillo handled more than 1.7 million TEUs between January and May 2026, underlining its position as Mexico’s most important logistics hub.
The addition of the Sierra service further strengthens Contecon Manzanillo’s capacity to support the country’s foreign trade.
