The Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) has introduced Identity Exchange, a digital platform aimed at streamlining business identity verification across the shipping and logistics sector.
Global trade depends on trust, yet every new partnership starts from scratch. Companies repeatedly perform compliance and KYC checks, collect documents, and verify identities across multiple jurisdictions, a process that is slow, inconsistent, and costly, and that increases exposure to operational risk.
Identity Exchange provides a centralised gateway to verified company information, helping organisations improve data quality, reduce compliance risk, and accelerate partner onboarding, creating a more reliable basis for digital trade.
Developed with input from DCSA’s founding carriers and industry partners, Identity Exchange aligns with the association’s goal of advancing digital transformation in container shipping.
This collaboration ensured the platform addresses practical operational needs and reflects the realities of global trade.

Niels Nuyens, Chief Product Officer at DCSA, said: “Identity Exchange represents DCSA’s role in supporting the industry’s digitalisation. Standards remain essential, but achieving full digitalisation requires robust digital infrastructure.
“This first DCSA product improves day-to-day operations and provides a foundation for scaling digital trade effectively.”
The platform has achieved a 95 per cent success rate in delivering verified company data, demonstrating its ability to enhance compliance, streamline onboarding, and provide measurable operational benefits.
Yossi Bar, Traffic Manager, and Missy Barron, Business and Documentation Supervisor at ZIM’s Global Customer Service Directorate, stated: “The Identity Exchange Platform supports our strategy to deliver excellent customer service while maintaining compliance with international regulations and sanctions.”
Revenue from DCSA’s product initiatives supports the association’s continued work in developing open standards and solutions that drive digital transformation across the container shipping industry.
Recently, HMM completed three pilots implementing DCSA standards with Genesis, Samsung SDS, and HelloContainer.
