A Cosco containership recently crashed into a gantry crane at the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) at Egypt’s Port Said, causing major damage, according to gCaptain.

The ‘Cosco Hope’ ship reportedly crashed after it was leaving the port as the stern backed into the crane. A few workers were said to be injured. Nobody was killed in the incident.

This follows recent news that an MSC Fabiola containership had blocked traffic along the Suez Canal after running aground. The ship has since been refloated.

PTI previously reported on a major incident which took place at SCCT, involving the collision of an APL containership with a ship-to-shore crane.

The incident was said to cost millions of dollars in repairs in order to bring the crane back to working condition.

These issues highlight the importance of effective training and risk management, in order to lower the risk of serious incidents occurring in the port environment.
