HE Makky Sall welcomed by DP World chairman in Dubai
Dubai-based terminal operator DP World welcomed the Senegalese president HE Makky Sall to its headquarters and flagship facility Jebel Ali this week.
The Senegalese Head of State, received by the Group’s Chairman HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, was briefed on the efficiencies that have made Jebel Ali port a major contributor to the UAE’s expanding economy and how DP World uses it as a model to develop ports and marine terminals across its global portfolio, including DP World Dakar.
DP World has operated DP World Dakar since 2008, and since taking over operational responsibilities at the West African terminal it has doubled its capacity to over 600,000 TEU.
“We are honoured to welcome His Excellency Makky Sall, the president of Senegal, to our flagship facility,” HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem declared.
“Jebel Ali Port grew and expanded over the years as a gateway to the whole region leveraging its geographic location.”
“We believe DP World Dakar is similarly strategically positioned for West Africa, being both a gateway to the region and a major contributor to Senegal’s expanding economy, supporting its future long term development.”
HE Makky Sall was accompanied by a high-level delegation including HE Mankeur Ndiaye, minister of foreign affairs, and Diene Farba Sarr, minister of investments and partnership.
The visiting dignitaries were briefed about the technology and innovation that has driven the port’s operational efficiencies and were briefed on its major expansion projects, including the ongoing development of Terminal 3 that will add a further four million TEU bringing the port’s capacity to 19 million TEU this year.
