The Sea Port of Saint Petersburg JSC (SP SPb) has invested a total of RUB 27.3 million ($361,563) in implementing a new environmental programme.

In 2021, the port increased the frequency of air quality measuring from monthly to daily.

SP SPb has been using ecological monitoring through analysis of air samples to keep a closer eye on air quality levels. Additionally, it has also been conducting regular monitoring of the sanitary protection zone.

The findings obtained through these methods confirm the port’s compliance with antipollution standards.

Systemic environmental activities have also been conducted in line with the company’s ecological strategy.

To protect the environment, the port now undertakes several measures on waste water treatment, technical maintenance of ecological facilities, sustainable utilisation, and disposal of industrial waste.

To ensure environmental safety in its loading and unloading operations, SP SPb expanded its fleet of environmental equipment with a new trailer-type cleaning machine.

The port also recently upgraded its storage facilities, railway infrastructures, power engineering facilities, and repaired its berths.

A total of three kilometres of railway and crane tracks were repaired in 2021 alongside 13 switch assemblies and one highway crossing. The port also reconstructed 23,000 m2 of pavement at its storage facilities and roads, while organising the construction of two new cargo yards covering a total of 19,700 m2.
