Saudi Arabia’s seaports recorded a decline in volume of containers handled for January 2022.

MAWANI, the Saudi Ports Authority, said that its ports were affected by international supply and demand for January, with total throughput at over 819,000 TEU, a 7.2 per cent decline in volume compared to January 2021.

Similarly, the number of vessels received by the ports decreased by 4.1 per cent.

The fall in container flows mirrored a decrease in November, where Saudi Arabia’s seaports handled a total of 791,000 TEU.

MAWANI affirmed that it will continue to strengthen the maritime transport sector by transforming Saudi ports into attractive investment destinations that support the nation’s trade and economic development in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030.
