The Port of Tyne will temporarily close a section of the River Tyne between Royal Quays and the River Don from 09:00 to 18:00 on 30 July.
The closure will allow salvage teams to safely separate a collapsed gantry crane from the container ship BG Orange and move the vessel into the river.
The closure relates to a collision between two vessels at Tyne Container Terminal on 19 July. Salvage crews will carry out work to separate the collapsed crane from the BG Orange, with part of the operation involving moving the vessel into the river, the reason behind the temporary closure of that stretch of the Tyne.
A Port of Tyne spokesperson said: “This remains a complex and critical operation, and we thank all rivers users for their patience while the work is carried out.”
The public has been advised to stay away from the area while the operation is underway.
The closure marks the latest stage in the salvage response following the collision, with the terminal working to restore normal operations once the crane and vessel have been safely separated and cleared.
