The security situation around the Strait of Hormuz remains under pressure following renewed US-Iran tensions and continued disruption to commercial shipping.
Reuters reported that US forces carried out new strikes in Iran, targeting a military site in Bandar Abbas and shooting down four Iranian one-way attack drones considered a threat around the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Reuters, a US official said the site was an Iranian ground control station that was preparing to launch a fifth drone. The official described the action as “measured, purely defensive, and intended to maintain the ceasefire.”
The escalation follows recent maritime industry warnings over vessel safety in the Strait of Hormuz, with leading shipping organisations urging operators to maintain heightened vigilance, review security procedures and follow updates from official maritime reporting centres.

The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has also sanctioned Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority.
The Treasury described the authority as an IRGC-linked body involved in directing and charging vessels for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. It said parties cooperating with the authority may be exposed to sanctions risk if they are deemed to be providing support to, or receiving services from, the IRGC.

The International Maritime Organization’s latest confirmed incident update lists 39 highlighted incidents in the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Middle East as of 26 May, with 11 confirmed seafarer fatalities.
The most recent confirmed incident listed by the IMO involved the OLYMPIC LIFE, reported on 26 May around 60 nautical miles east of Muscat, Oman. The vessel was damaged and suffered limited bunker fuel discharge, with no injuries reported.
The latest developments suggest that Hormuz remains a live security concern for vessel operators, with official advisories, sanctions exposure and regional military activity continuing to shape transit risk.
