ZPMC and ZPMC Mediterranean Turkey have successfully converted Turkish port operator Kumport’s eight Kalmar diesel-powered rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) to ERTG.

Diesel RTGs consume a great deal of power and are a major source of CO2 emissions.

With rising environmental concerns and the gradual increase in diesel prices, the conversion was becoming a necessity rather than a mere engineering fantasy.

The Kumport ERTG conversion project was ambitious in that it aimed to complete in just four days.

ZPMC and ZPMC Med teams worked successfully as a joint team over a short period and managed to complete each conversion in two days.

Currently, under the support of ZPMC Mediterranean Turkey, the Kalmar RTGs are working at a higher performance as a result of the new ZPMC ERTG technology.

All adjustments and handover were completed without affecting Kumport’s daily operations.

The conversion is expected to increase efficiency and productivity at Kumport, while reducing emissions and fostering a sustainable future.
