Rotterdam World Gateway Reaches Deep-Sea Milestone

Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) has handled its 2.5 millionth deep-sea container on since it opened in September 2015, with an Ocean Network Express (ONE) vessel providing the milestone call.

According to a statement, RWG, the world’s most automated and innovative container terminal, received the container from the Yang Ming Witness containership on April 18, 2019.

 

 

Ronald Lugthart, CEO of RWG, said: “As an organization, we are very proud of having achieved this milestone in the short history of RWG.

“It is a team performance of all people working at RWG and thanks to the trust of all our customers and stakeholders in RWG.”

Furthermore, the RWG said it is running above 90% of its capacity and that it will ‘continue to develop and extend its handling services of all modalities”.

In the future, it goes on to say, it will focus on developing innovative concepts, such as Nextlogic, the Port of Rotterdam owned subsidiary which explores and develops new inland shipping projects.
