Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG), a fully automated terminal within Rotterdam's Maasvlakte II development, has celebrated handling one million containers since its official opening in September 2015.

The millionth container was unloaded from the 13,830 TEU CMA CGM Corte Real.

Ronald Lugthart, CEO of RWG, said: “As an organization we are very proud of having achieved this milestone within two years since the opening of RWG.

“After a period of building and testing, the terminal has grown to be a well-respected terminal in the port of Rotterdam and the Hamburg-Le Havre range.”

The terminal is now running at 90% of its capacity.

In the next few years, RWG’s container handling services will be further developed and extended so it can deliver 2,350,000 TEU annually after $843 million dollars of investment.
