Rijeka Gateway goes fully digital with CONROO app
CONROO, a provider of digital truck visit systems, and Rijeka Gateway have joined forces to implement fully digital, smartphone-enabled truck handling at the soon-to-open container terminal.

This innovative collaboration will eliminate physical pre-gates, plastic cards, and paper-based processes, replacing them with a real-time, mobile-first solution that enhances efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

Set to become the first fully remote-operated terminal in the Adriatic, Rijeka Gateway will leverage CONROO’s end-to-end digital ecosystem to handle trucks seamlessly, from pre-announcement through secure gate access to on-yard coordination.

All of this happens through the smartphones of truck drivers, turning them into mobile control centres for terminal visits.

At Rijeka Gateway, truck drivers will no longer queue at a pre-gate checkpoint or manually present documents. Instead, using the CONROO app, they will be able to receive terminal visit instructions with container data and access to secure in-app digital credentials.

Upon arrival, they will gain contactless access, directions to assigned yard positions, and be guided throughout their terminal visit—all through their phone.

This fully digital workflow is designed to match the groundbreaking remote-operated and electrified equipment that will power the terminal yard, ensuring the landside process is equally advanced.

“Rijeka Gateway chose CONROO’s solution while instilling industry best and innovative practices to digitally integrate truck drivers into our terminal processes via smartphone,” said Jean-Louis Sebapo, IT Manager, Rijeka Gateway.

“This step has significantly increased efficiency for both our terminal operators and the drivers themselves.”

By supporting the digitisation of the entire truck handling process, CONROO helps reduce delays, streamline terminal access, and minimise unnecessary waiting times for drivers.

This contributes to smoother traffic flow, fewer bottlenecks, and improved fuel efficiency, factors that are increasingly important as ports work to reduce their environmental footprint. At Rijeka Gateway, the fully digital and contactless approach means less paperwork, reduced congestion, and a more controlled yard environment.

“Smartphones are the new infrastructure,” said Felix Paul Czerny, Co-Founder and CEO of CONROO.

“With CONROO, we’re connecting terminals and the trucking community in real time, eliminating analogue bottlenecks, paper-based inefficiencies, and complex hardware. Our app has what it takes to become a standard part of every multimodal transport management system. It’s simple, scalable, and powerful: a true enabler of intelligent logistics.”

“We are proud to be the first in Croatia to implement a fully digital truck entry and exit system at the terminal,” said Peter Corfitsen, CEO of Rijeka Gateway.

“By reducing traffic congestion and saving time, the system improves business operations and provides a range of benefits for transporters and the local community. This project further confirms the high level of technology and automation at the terminal. When trucks move efficiently, we waste less time, fuel, and resources. That’s not just good for business, it’s good for the environment.”

Last October, Rijeka Gateway acquired electricity from renewable sources to power its container terminal.
