Hongkong International Terminals to install remote control operations to 29 RTGs
Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) has signed an agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Technology Corporation (MHIMT) to install remote-control operations for the 29 rubber-tyred Gantry cranes (RTGs) at HIT’s Container Terminal 9.
The project is the first of its kind outside of Japan.
“HIT and Mitsubishi have maintained a long business relationship dating back 24 years ago when Mitsubishi first provided HIT with bridge cranes and subsequently rail-mounted gantry cranes,” said Kazuo Iida, president and CEO of MHIMT, at the contract signing ceremony on Monday.
“We are proud to be working with HIT again on this project, signifying an extension of our successful partnership and contributing to HIT’s future growth and development.”
HIT expects the first batch of its remote control RTGs to be in operation by the end of 2014, with the full project expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2015.
