Container volumes have reached a record high for the Port of Virginia in January, 2015 after it posted TEU throughput of almost 200,000 for the month.

According to the Journal of Commerce, this was a 15% year-over-year increase.

John F. Reinhart, CEO and Executive Director Virginia Port Authority’s, said: “January delivered continued strong volumes. While we continue to experience challenges at the gates, cargo owners are choosing to move their cargo over Virginia because they see a sense of urgency in what we are doing, and they see us beginning to invest.”

The port authority’s fiscal-year-to-date performance also shows strong volume growth, showing an 8.4% volume increase for the first seven months of the 2014/2015 fiscal year.

The port will release its financial results for January by February, 2015.
