Marine Electronics Company, Queens Group has supplied Colombo Port with a new vessel traffic management system (VTMS).

The specialised VTMS has been designed in partnership with Queens by French company Signalis.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) spent a total €6 million to install the new VTMS which will allow them to manage terminal operations at Colombo Port with greater ease.

The new VTMS includes improved port service quality and resource utilisation, large scale planning and traffic co-ordination across both regional and national areas, increased criminal activity detection and overall increased safety.

Speaking of the deal, Dinesh Motha, Queens Group managing director, said “This state-of-the-art radar and AIS based system with digitizers will enable SLPA to manage and monitor vessel traffic efficiently and effectively.

“This system will undoubtedly increase the productivity and drastically reduce the operating costs for the SLPA,” he continued.

“The advanced networking system has the capability to easily network with other ports in Sri Lanka and is a fully expandable system that can meet the future demands and challenges of the shipping industry.”
