Qube Ports, a provider of port solutions based in Sydney, Australia, has ordered a ninth mobile harbour crane to increase its material handling and reduce crane operator overloads.

The purchase, due for delivery to Qube later this year, marks the company’s second mobile harbour crane order from Liebherr in 2018. The latest machine type, LHM 550, can lift up to 144 tonnes, has a maximum radius of 54 metres, and comes with the SmartGrip bulk handling option, which means it can handle materials with different densities with the same grab.

Qube Ports, which supplies logistics, provides services and facilities to 28 ports across Australia. Gordon Clark, General Manager of Liebherr Australia, commented: “This saves Qube a lot of hassle with grab changes, but also saves them money otherwise spent buying multiple grabs.”

Todd Emmert, Director of Qube in WA, stated: “It’s another exciting investment and a demonstration of Qube’s commitment to SIMEC and the port of Whyalla.

“This investment will assist SIMEC with its continued development of the Whyalla Port towards becoming a world-scale, multi-user facility.”
