The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Malaysia, has reported an all-time move record for the exchange of containers at the port.

The record, reached on 29 March, saw a total of 137,256 moves in a week, equivalent of 211,997 TEUs.

This beat the previous record of 132, 506 moves, or 202,871 TEUs, set in the second week of January 2020.

PTP put the success down to various operational improvement initiatives that have been put in place by the Port and consistency in productivity.

PTI expolores the five biggest ports in Souteast Asia.

“This new achievement would not be possible without the cooperation and joint effort by all parties and is truly a statement of everyone’s continuous effort, dedication and hard work as one unified team,” a statement posted by the Port said.

In October 2019 PTP announced plans to double its capacity in a move that will see it carry more than 30 million TEU by 2030.

Since it opened in 1999, PTP has increased its TEU traffic from under a million to almost 10 million. Its current capacity is 12.4 million TEU and it is one of the few ports in the world that can accommodate the latest class of mega-vessels.
