PTI Event Session Six: Exponential and Disruptive Tech

 16 Feb 2018 12.06pm

PTI is pleased to announce the first session of Day Two of the Container Terminal Automation Conference: Automation with Exponential and Disruptive Technologies.

The session will look into the impact of automated processes and how disruptive technologies have continued to evolve.

The past few years have seen exponential growth in the number of breakthrough organizations and platforms providing technology to create intelligent supply chains, including supply chain automation, AI, cloud collaboration and blockchain technologies.

For example, the joint venture between A.P. Moller-Maersk and IBM is set to provide more efficient and secure methods for conducting global trade using blockchain technology and other cloud-based open source technologies including AI, IoT and analytics.

However, many leading the charge to apply disruptive technologies to supply chain processes worry that the quality of data in the shipping industry will hinder its adoption of AI technologies.

A recent survey by Navis indicates that 76% of the respondents put process improvement as a ‘number one priority’ for terminal operations, suggesting that work to enable the best use of port data and assets by disruptive technologies and platforms is a high priority for most ports and terminals.

Our panel offers a birds-eye view of the current pace of adoption in the industry and offers informed predictions about future possibilities for technological disruption
