Michael has over 19 years’ experience in Business to Business (B2B) technology solutions for the supply chain and freight & logistics industry.

His career started at the innovation giant 3M where he lead a number of e-Business solutions in the 90’s, before joining Sun Microsystems in the UK working on a global B2B solution that required collaboration with organisations such as Samsung, Sony and Fedex to automate and streamline the supply of products to the end consumer.

The success of that project meant Michael was a sought-after B2B process automation expert working for P&O Nedloyd on port related technology projects in the Asia Pacific region before joining 1-Stop and was instrumental addressing supply chain complexities through developing 1-Stop’s Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for the port community.

He said of the upcoming event: “Terminal automation is an evolution rather than a destination.

“When people hear ‘port automation’ most think about the robots (automated stacking cranes or automated straddles) moving containers on and off the ships, trucks and trains. Whist that is true, there are so many more aspects to port automation than just the robots.

“Automation in our ports can start with business process automation that allows for better planning of operations whilst the operational engagement systems assist with the efficient utilisation of assets and capacity at the terminal.

“Every terminal around the world is at a differing stage or need when it comes to automation but ultimately, there is something for every one of them to commence the automation journey regardless of constraints, budget or technology sophistication.

“The terminal automation and training conference is a great idea that I am excited to be a part of.”

1-Stop’s solutions reach the wider sea-freight supply chain community and our customers include shipping lines, terminals, port authorities, depots, freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PLs, trucking companies, rail operators, importers and exporters.

1-Stop assists terminals that have varying degrees of technology, from non-automated to automated terminals with 1-Stop being a solution that allows both automated and non-automated terminals to derive the most out of their investments.

With regards to the implementation of automation, Mr Bouari said: “Some terminals maybe thinking; I can’t afford or justify the terminal automation, but this event will allow you to speak to industry experts about the challenges and benefits gained through the varying degrees of terminal automation.

“People attending the event should come with all their questions and the expert panel will be able to share their experiences and insights that can help participants with their next steps of the terminal automation journey.

“I can foresee this event to be the one that you mark on your calendar each year as we are at the beginning of the terminal automation evolution and this is a great way to learn from one another as there is sure to be new innovations discovered and challenges along the way.”
