The PSA Group of Terminals has announced that all its terminal facilities will be in full compliance with the implementation of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) when it comes into effect on July 1, 2016.
This follows news that Global Ports was preparing for the container weighing legislation by completing preparations for information systems and processes.
As a major and responsible member of the global container shipping community, PSA terminals will provide solutions where possible in the local context to facilitate the smooth and efficient implementation of the SOLAS amendments.
Export containers arriving at PSA terminals with valid Verified Gross Mass (VGM) will be accepted in accordance with operational procedures which are in most cases familiar to our customers.
For those arriving without VGM, most PSA terminals will be ready to provide a weighing service to determine VGM upon request.
PSA will work closely alongside its stakeholders, including the relevant State authorities to ensure that the transition will be a smooth one.
Fact File: PSA participates in around 40 terminals in 16 countries across Asia, Europe and the Americas with flagship operations in PSA Singapore Terminals and PSA Antwerp. PSA strives to continue growing its port network alongside its shipping line customers and become the preferred partner to port stakeholders across the world.
