Steve Williams, Chief Executive at Portico, said: “The report highlights the services we provide to keep goods moving and the economic value the port generates. Our expanded container and general cargo handling capabilities reflect growth in line with global supply chain trends. The Solent Freeport seed funding will allow further development, attract more business and support quality local jobs. Investment in greener logistics is also a key priority to modernise facilities.”
The company has invested in cranes capable of tandem lifts up to 250 tonnes, warehouses with temperature-controlled storage for fresh produce, reinforced flooring for heavy cargo, and high-ceiling facilities for large volumes.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: “Portico underpins Portsmouth’s position as a leading UK marine and maritime hub. The Solent Freeport funding will allow the port to expand operations, support UK trade, and provide career opportunities for local people. Continued investment is enhancing the port’s economic impact and its ability to diversify.”
