The Port of Los Angeles has appointed maritime and cruise veteran Christopher Chase as its new Director of Cargo Marketing.
In his new role, Chase will lead a team that promotes America’s Port®, North America’s largest trade gateway for container volume, which supports regional jobs and generates port revenue. He succeeds Eric Caris, who recently retired.
Port Executive Director, Gene Seroka, said: “The port’s stakeholder relationships — from shipping and cruise lines to terminal operators, rail carriers, beneficial cargo owners and beyond — are critical to our success. Chris brings an exceptional depth of experience, strong qualifications, and well-established industry relationships that make him ideally suited for this position.”
Chase joined the port in 2001 as a marketing consultant and has steadily taken on greater responsibilities. Most recently, as Assistant Director of Cargo Marketing, he focused on container operations, the cruise sector, supply chain optimisation, and maintaining key relationships with beneficial cargo owners and railroads.

Additionally, he has played a leading role in the port’s technology initiatives.
In 2017, he partnered with GE Transportation, a Wabtec Company, to manage the port’s participation in the Port Optimizer™ programme, a digital portal that provides cargo owners and supply chain stakeholders secure access to maritime shipping data.
Before joining the port, Chase was an account executive at Hanjin Shipping Company, overseeing import and export container operations in Asia and Europe.
