The Panama Canal and the Port of Houston have renewed their Mutual Cooperation Agreement, originally signed in 2003.
The renewal reaffirms their commitment to strengthening commercial exchange and promoting the Canal’s strategic maritime route.
The renewal underscores the shared interest of both parties in boosting trade and highlights the Canal’s continued value as a global logistics hub.
It also emphasises the benefits the interoceanic waterway offers to US Gulf Coast exports, particularly cargo moving through the Port of Houston.

Cargo originating from, or destined for, Houston currently accounts for approximately 18 per cent of all cargo transiting the Canal.
The agreement’s renewal reflects the strategic relevance of continued collaboration between the two institutions, positioning both the Panama Canal and the Port of Houston to remain at the forefront of maritime trade and global connectivity.
