Nafith International wins 25-year Sokhna Port contract

Nafith International has secured a 25-year contract to manage and operate truck yard facilities at Sokhna Port under the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).

The tender was secured as part of a joint venture with Egytrans NOSCO. The project will see the development of modern marshalling yards supported by a smart management system provided by Nafith International.

Nourah Mehyar, Group CEO of Nafith International, said: “The project aims to develop modern marshalling yards supported by a smart management system provided by Nafith International, which specialises in integrated digital solutions for yard regulation and logistics.

“The system relies on real-time planning and flexible flow management, allowing for the accommodation of the largest possible number of trucks daily through managed operational mechanisms that reduce randomness, improve transport fleet utilisation rates, and limit traffic congestion in and around the port.”

Integrating Nafith’s digital platform with EGYTRANS’s logistics operations is expected to reduce truck waiting times and increase daily operational capacity by between 25 and 30 per cent within the first two years.

The project is positioned within Egypt’s wider port development strategy.

Waleid Gamal Eldien, Chairman of SCZONE, further commented: “The project comes within the framework of the state’s strategic direction to transform Egyptian ports into global logistics centers for 2020-2030, especially the Red Sea ports, foremost of which is Sokhna Port, which is witnessing an unprecedented qualitative leap through the implementation of giant projects to modernize basic and superstructure infrastructure, create new berths, double capacity, and attract the largest global operating alliances.”

Projected impacts outlined in the announcement include a 15 to 30 per cent reduction in operational costs through the application of AI and digital solutions, a 50 to 70 per cent improvement in yard management efficiency, and a reduction in waiting times and congestion of more than 40 per cent.

In other recent developments, Red Sea Container Terminals has announced the official opening of Egypt’s first semi-automated container terminal at Sokhna Port on the Gulf of Suez.
