Porto Itapoá records 500,000 TEU handled in 2024

Porto Itapoá has handled an impressive 500,000 TEU in the first five months of 2024.

The port handled 102,270 TEU in May, achieving the third-largest monthly volume on record.

The port set a new monthly record for dry imports, handling 37,562 TEU. Crossdocking operations also reached a record high, with 918 TEU handled.

Another notable record for the month was the movement at the gate, with 47,073 truck entries recorded, exceeding the previous record of 45,827 transactions set in April 2024.

Finally, the month saw the highest monthly volume in Less than Container Load (LCL) cargo.

“This mode has been growing and serves clients who may not have enough cargo to fill a container,” said Felipe Fiovaranti Kaufmann, Director of Business Development and Customer Experience at Porto Itapoá.

“It’s important to mention that Porto Itapoá is the only terminal in the primary zone offering this service, reducing costs and optimizing times for importers.”

In April 2024, Porto Itapoá acquired the international accreditation I-Rec (Renewable Energy Certificate), certifying that 100 per cent of the terminal’s electrical energy in 2023 would come from renewable sources.

More recently, Porto Itapoá completed phase III expansion of its terminal with a total investment of R$ 815 million ($157 million).
