The Port of Rotterdam International (PORint) has appointed René van de Plas as its new Director, and the move will come into effect on June 1, 2016.

René Van der Plas will succeed Roger Clasquin who is expected to take the position of Managing Director of the Steder Group in Rotterdam.

PORint is the department of the Rotterdam Port Authority which provides advice on port development and participation in port management in new ports in countries important to Rotterdam.

Van der Plas has previously worked within the Port Authority as Project Director of Maasvlakte 2 and has been responsible for the rail programme.

PTI previously reported that the Port of Rotterdam Authority intends to redirect approximately 4km of the port section of the Betuwe rail route, which means that the railway line will no longer run over the Caland Bridge, thereby preventing shipping and rail traffic from obstructing each other from 2020.

The development of rail operation remains important to the port authority which falls under the responsibility of Ronald Paul, COO, who was already responsible for inland shipping and road transport.
