A new digital shipping platform to speed up global trade flows has been promised by Port of Oakland officials.

The port has stated that it will be building an online portal for transactions dealing with tracking and transporting containerized cargo to be released mid-year.

A preview build of the new digital collaboration platform was shown at the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) meeting in Oakland on March 7th, 2018.

Port Officials are aiming to have the portal provide a unified space for cargo owners and freight owners to receive cargo status updates, check ocean vessel schedules and pay freight-handling fees, among other functions.

The Port will be working with New Jeresy-based logistics software provider Advent Intermodal Solutions LLC, whose eModal port community system is already in use by terminal operators at Oakland, to develop the portal.

Development of the portal is already in progress, with a projected launch date in the third-quarter 2018.

Oakland Senior Project Administrator Eric Napralla said: “This is the next big thing in global trade.

It’s a common platform – one place where everyone can go to more easily view and direct their shipments.”
