Port of Valencia confirms first train on rail motorway

The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has confirmed the arrival of the first train on its railroad since the cut-off low began.

Juan Carlos Arocas, Managing Director Iberia of TransItalia, Jesús Calvo, CEO of Tramesa, and Mar Chao, President of the Port Authority of Valencia, visited the terminal to witness the first operation of the Port of Valencia rail motorway following track reconstruction.

The Port of Valencia’s integrated transport terminal, which can load and unload truck semi-trailers between road and rail, can now function at full capacity thanks to the railway infrastructure being repaired at record speed following the crossing of the cut-off low

In this regard, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility mobilised an exceptional investment of €184.6 million ($191.7 million) to repair and rebuild Valencia’s railway facilities, allowing the service to be resumed days ahead of schedule.

As a result, the loading and unloading of truck semi-trailers between the highway and the railway track of the Peninsula’s first railway motorway is now fully operational, and four weekly services will commence in early 2025.

This infrastructure allows truck trailers to go from Italy to Madrid – and vice versa – by shifting at the Valencian port region, preventing 16,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering the environment each year.

In October, PAV terminals handled the loading and unloading of 50,465 vehicles.
