The North China’s Tianjin Port has handled approximately 4.63 million TEU of containers in the first three months of 2022, registering an increase of 3.5 per cent year on year.
According to the port’s operator Tianjin Port Development Holdings Limited, the figure marks a record high in container throughput compared to the same period in previous years.
The achievement comes despite the negative impact brought by COVID-19 outbreaks across China.
The Port of Tianjin is the largest port in Northern China with more than 133 cargo routes and extending trade ties with more than 800 ports in over 200 countries and regions.
In August last year, the Tianjin Port Group announced the project to build the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) zero-carbon terminal.
The port ranked sixth in our PTI’s list of ‘Top 10 Ports in China 2021’.
