Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has become the first container terminal in Malaysia to handle over 12.25 million TEUs in a single year for the year 2024.
This achievement surpassed PTP’s previous record of 11.2 million TEUs set in 2021.
The 12 millionth TEU was recorded at about 7.00 pm on 23 December 2024. Additionally, on 22 September 2024, PTP achieved an exceptional 14,036 quayside moves within a 12-hour shift.
In July 2024, PTP achieved its highest monthly milestone, handling 1.1 million TEUs.
These achievements are part of a sustained performance that has seen PTP handle over 1 million TEUs monthly for seven months since May 2024. In December 2024, PTP successfully implemented Kaleris’ Navis N4 4.0 container terminal operating system, a key upgrade to support future volume growth while maintaining operational excellence.
PTP is now ranked as the fifth most efficient container port in the world, according to the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2023 by The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence. PTP is also ranked 15th among the world’s top container ports in terms of volume throughput, as highlighted by Lloyd’s List.
