Port of Tampa Bay resumes operations amid Hurricane Milton

Port Tampa Bay has started vessel operations and its port’s shipping channels have officially reopened following Hurricane Milton.

The port collaborated with federal, state, and local officials, as well as the marine community, to mitigate the consequences of Hurricane Milton.

After conferring with the Port Heavy Weather Advisory Group and performing detailed studies of the port, canals, and channels, the U.S. Coast Guard reopened the port and restored regular operations, with a daylight hour limitation and one-way transit.

Port staff reportedly inspected the docks, wharfs, and terminals for safety.

Some of the first ships to return were gasoline tankers, cruise ships, and vessels transporting perishable goods.

The port noted that there would be changes to the following cruise schedules: Carnival Paradise, Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas and Margaritaville at Sea Islander.

In July, Hurricane Beryl on the Texas coast near Houston forced some of the largest ports in Texas to close operations leading to a surge in vessel traffic.
