The Port of Rotterdam Authority and logistics real estate specialists DHG have agreed a deal to build an XXL warehouse complex on the Distripark Maasvlakte West in what will be the largest development of its kind in The Netherlands.

In a statement, the Port of Rotterdam Authority said the warehouse will be built on 30 hectares of land and be at least 210,000m2 in size.

It will be built on the ‘Smart Logistics’ (SMARTLOG) concept, the fastest growing warehouse concept in The Netherlands.

SMARTLOG cetres are focused in the safe storage of hazardous substances and are strategically located at logistics points in and around ports.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-September and DHG aims to have them finished and operational by mid-January 2022.

Just over half the land – 120,00m2 – will then be rented by Odin Warehousing, DHG’s “launching customer”, for 15 years. The land will be used for the storage of conventional goods.

Odin Warehousing has grown rapidly at the Port of Rotterdam in recent years; the company focuses on the storage of sustainable products, such as solar panels.
