The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has joined the United Nations Global Compact for the implementation and promotion of sustainable business development.

MPA joined the global initiative on Earth Day on 22 April.

The announcement follows previous initiatives launched by the Port of Montreal over the last decade aimed at protecting the environment and biodiversity, reducing its carbon footprint, and sound management of its assets.

“As a port authority, the MPA has a fundamental role to play in promoting and supporting corporate social responsibility in its sphere of activity,” said Martin Imbleau, President and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority.

“The principles of the United Nations Global Compact are at the heart of our corporate culture and it is with conviction and determination that we strengthen our commitment and our ambitions in terms of sustainable development”.

Earlier this month, the Port of Montreal and Canadian National Railway (CN) reached an agreement to integrate rail transport at the MPA’s new container terminal in Contrecœur.
