Port of Melbourne container volumes rise to 282,000 TEU in July

The Port of Melbourne has released its July trade numbers, showing a significant year-on-year (YoY) increase in container throughput to 282,000 TEU.

In July 2024, full container import volumes (excluding Bass Strait) climbed over the previous year, with furniture, household appliances, and paperboard all exceeding last year’s figures.

Full container export volumes (excluding the Bass Strait) were also greater than the previous year, with timber, hay, chaff and fodder, barley, and meats all exceeding last year’s totals.

However, total empty container movements decreased in July 2024 compared to the previous year’s quantities.

The Port of Melbourne witnessed its container throughput rise YoY in May to 281,000 TEU, and in June to 264,000 TEU.
