The Port of Long Beach began the new year with the busiest January on record and the second-busiest month ever, moving 952,733 TEUs, a 41.4 per cent increase from the previous month.
These figures exceeded the previous record established in January 2022 by 18.9 per cent.
Imports surged 45 per cent to 471,649 TEUs, while exports increased 14 per cent to 98,655 TEUs. Empty containers travelling through the port increased 45.9 per cent to 382,430 TEUs.

Port of Long Beach CEO, Mario Cordero, said: “It’s encouraging to start off the year so strongly. As we head into 2025, I thank and congratulate all of our partners for their hard work.
“We will continue to focus on enhancing both our competitiveness and sustainability, no matter the uncertainties in the supply chain.”
The port’s strong start to 2025 is the eighth straight monthly year-over-year (YoY) cargo growth, following a record-breaking year of 9.64 million TEUs handled in 2024.
