The Port of Long Beach has promoted Suzanne Plezia, P.E., to Managing Director of Engineering Services, following the retirement of Sean Gamette, P.E.
Plezia has served as Senior Director of Engineering Services and Chief Harbor Engineer at the Port of Long Beach since April 2017.
In her new role, she will lead the Engineering Bureau, which includes more than 300 staff across six divisions: Program Management, Construction Management, Project Controls, Survey, Engineering Design, and Maintenance.
She will also oversee the port’s $3.2 billion, 10-year capital improvement programme aimed at boosting capacity, competitiveness, and sustainability.
Harbor Commission President Bonnie Lowenthal said: “Suzanne is a top-notch civil engineer who has excelled in every role she’s held at the port over the years. Her exceptional leadership has brought many important modernisation projects to completion. We know she will continue to be a star for our port.”

Port Chief Executive Officer, Mario Cordero, stated: “We’re building the port of the future in Long Beach, and we are going to rely on experts and leaders like Suzanne. We will miss Sean Gamette and we bid him a fond farewell, and we know that Suzanne will fill his shoes.”
Plezia will replace Gamette shortly after his last day on 11 June and will report to Chief Operating Officer Noel Hacegaba.
