Port of Colombo ranked best performing port in growth

Alphaliner has designated the Port of Colombo as the best-performing port in the world for the first quarter of 2024.

This award recognises Colombo’s outstanding growth rate of 23.6 per cent, which outperforms all other ports globally.

Notably, the Port of Long Beach came in second with a growth rate of 23.3 per cent, followed by the Port of Tanjung Pelepas with a growth rate of 22.7 per cent.

The first half of 2024 has been particularly impressive for the Port of Colombo.

When compared to the same time in 2023, domestic volumes jumped by 19.2 per cent, transshipment volumes by 9.6 per cent, and overall volumes increased by 12.5 per cent.

Reportedly, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) terminals have been instrumental in generating this exceptional performance.

Between January and June 2024, the SLPA terminals had a 23.6 per cent increase in domestic volumes, a 15.5 per cent increase in transshipment volumes, and a total volume gain of 17.7 per cent.

In February, the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka witnessed an increase in transshipments by 29.1 per cent YoY, marking the third consecutive month of growth.
