Port Houston reaches record March container volumes
Port Houston has handled 386,864 TEUs during March—an impressive 7 per cent increase over March 2023 and the highest March volume in its history.

Year-to-date (YTD), container throughput at Port Houston’s public terminals has topped 1 million TEUs, totalling 1.06 million—holding steady with last year’s pace.

According to the port, March’s container volumes were powered by a significant 14 per cent surge in loaded exports compared to the same month last year, reaching 152,857 TEUs—the highest March total for loaded exports on record.

Loaded imports also saw growth, rising 2 per cent in March.

Charlie Jenkins, CEO of Port Houston, said: “While March was a solid month for us, we’re watching closely for shifts in the global market and how that could impact cargo in our region in the coming months.

“At this time, we are focused on advocacy on behalf of our port’s many industries and ensuring we
continue to develop the necessary infrastructure to support the jobs created by America’s largest port. We recognise that conditions can change quickly, and we’re staying focused on infrastructure, service, and flexibility.”

Recently, the Port of Houston Authority awarded Konecranes a contract for 16 hybrid rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes at Bayport Container Terminal.
