Vibo Marina port plans €90m investment programme

The Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea Port Authority has held an institutional meeting in Vibo Valentia Marina to align stakeholders on the future development of port infrastructure and port-city interface areas.

The discussions focused on planned investment activity across the port. The meeting forms part of a wider programme of site-based engagements led by the Port Authority’s management committee, aimed at reviewing ongoing works and upcoming interventions across all ports under its jurisdiction.

A delegation led by Paolo Piacenza, President of the Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea Port Authority, visited the port area alongside Giuseppe Cardona, Director of Peripheral Areas, local Port Authority officials, and Frigate Captain Guido Avallone, Commander of the Port of Vibo Marina.

The group also met Enzo Romeo, Mayor of Vibo Valentia, following a site tour of the port by sea.

Central to the discussions was the Strategic Planning Document (DPSS), the long-term framework guiding port development under Italy’s national port governance legislation.

The plan defines how port areas will be structured and integrated with surrounding urban zones, in coordination with municipal and regional authorities.

The Port Authority also presented its investment programme for Vibo Marina, covering redevelopment works and infrastructure upgrades scheduled between 2026 and 2028, with a total allocation of approximately €90 million ($104 million).

Planned interventions include the redevelopment of Cortese Dock, the demolition of the former Civam building, scheduled to begin by October 2026, and upgrades to port entrances and offshore infrastructure.

According to the Authority, the programme is intended to strengthen operational efficiency while improving integration between the port and surrounding urban and tourism functions.
