Stena Line has completed its acquisition of terminal operator Terrabalt in Liepaja, Latvia, officially taking over RoRo, bulk, and general cargo operations.
All competition and governmental approvals are in place, and Stena Line is now registered as the terminal owner.
The acquisition marks a key milestone in Stena Line’s long-term commitment to trade development and resilience in the Baltic Sea.
Liepaja, Latvia’s third-largest port, plays a vital role in regional and international supply chains. Stena Line currently operates the Liepaja–Travemünde route with two vessels.
Liene Lemane, Trade Director for the Baltic Sea North, stated: “The deal has now been closed, and we are officially the owner of the terminal operations in Liepaja, which now also changes its name to Stena Line Ports Liepajas SEZ. This is a logical next step in our development in the Baltics and reflects our strong belief in the Baltic region and its long-term trade potential.”

Stena Line plans a gradual modernisation of the terminal and its infrastructure, prioritising safety, security, customer experience, and efficient traffic management.
Lemane adds: “Miracles don’t happen overnight. Development takes time, and step by step we will improve the terminal in Liepaja while continuing to ensure stable and reliable operations for our customers. We have already gone through a similar journey in Ventspils, which we acquired nearly three years ago and successfully integrated. Liepaja will follow a similar path.”
In parallel, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority is rebuilding berth 46, a project set for completion by 31 December 2027 that will further strengthen the port’s capacity.
The acquisition expands Stena Line’s Baltic Sea network, which includes ports in Ventspils and Karlskrona, as well as ferry routes connecting Latvia, Sweden, Germany, and Poland.
