Peel Ports Group has completed a restoration of the Grade II-listed Langton Dock Pumphouse at the Port of Liverpool.
The project represents an investment of close to £1 million ($1.3 million) aimed at preserving a historically significant structure within the port’s dock estate.
The project was managed by Steve Graham on behalf of the Mersey Infrastructure Engineering team and delivered in partnership with Specialist UK Restorations Ltd, transforming a long-neglected building while securing its long-term future.
Delivery required navigating heritage planning requirements alongside operational port constraints. Ellie Lewtas and the Group Planning team secured the necessary Listed Building Consents before work began, with Sefton Council involved throughout and recognising the restoration’s positive impact on the local historic environment.

The Pumphouse forms part of Liverpool’s historic dock estate and has long been recognised for its architectural and heritage value.
The project reflects a broader pattern among UK port operators managing mixed portfolios of active infrastructure and protected heritage assets, where conservation obligations must be balanced against operational priorities and capital planning cycles.
Steve Graham highlighted the importance of investing in the port’s historic estate, stressing that structures such as the Langton Dock Pumphouse should remain part of Liverpool’s landscape for years to come.
