The Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Ports Association (IPA) and the Centre for Maritime Economy and Connectivity (CMEC).
The agreements establish a framework for joint research across port development and maritime affairs in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Tokyo-based think tank said the agreements reflect shared research interests identified through prior engagement with both bodies.
The JTTRI views the collaboration as a means of strengthening the quality of port and harbour research while supporting broader maritime industry development across South Asia.

The IPA, established in 1966, provides consulting services on port and harbour infrastructure and supports policy development for India’s major ports.
The CMEC, founded in 2023, was set up to advance national strategies on maritime affairs.
The JTTRI is also planning to open a local office in India later this year as part of a wider push to build networks and deepen relationships with public and private stakeholders across South Asia.
