The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT)’s Blount Island Marine Terminal has hit the halfway mark on construction of a new vehicle berth.
The milestone advances a significant infrastructure project aimed at boosting capacity and operational flexibility for vehicle vessel calls.
Berth 21, which is scheduled for completion in early 2027, will become Blount Island’s third dedicated vehicle berth. Built adjacent to the existing Berth 20, it will share a short causeway connecting to vehicle first points of rest on the terminal. The berth forms part of a broader £60 million ($80 million) investment at Blount Island.
The project follows the recent completion of an expansion to Berth 22, which now accommodates vessels up to approximately 750 feet length overall (LOA).
Combined, the two projects are expected to meaningfully strengthen the terminal’s vessel-handling capability without disrupting existing auto customer operations.

Eric Green, CEO, JAXPORT, said: “As one of the nation’s leading vehicle-handling ports, it’s important that we continue investing in the infrastructure needed to support future demand. Jacksonville’s strategic location and transportation network position us well to serve rising demand for vehicle imports and exports across Florida and the broader Southeast US region.”
Funding for the berth construction is split between the Florida Department of Transportation, which is covering 75 per cent of project costs, and JAXPORT, contributing a 25 per cent match.
