The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has commissioned the Haldia Bulk Terminal (HBT), formally dedicating it to the nation.
The fully automated facility on the Hooghly River has an annual capacity of 4 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and direct rail connections, representing a major upgrade for dry bulk cargo movement along India’s eastern maritime corridor.
The terminal features a 2,000 T Railway Wagon Loading System and a 1.54 kilometres (km) dedicated rail line, allowing bulk cargo to move directly from ships to the main rail network, reducing port dwell time and lowering delivered costs for industrial consumers in West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand.
Automated conveyor systems, stacker-cum-reclaimers, refurbished jetties and mobile harbour cranes further improve efficiency, safety and cargo handling.
HBT is part of India’s Sagarmala programme and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which prioritise multimodal port infrastructure to cut logistics costs.
