CMA CGM FIORDLAND, a 5,900 TEU containership, has become the first large vessel to call at Puerto Antioquia, a new multipurpose deep-water terminal on Colombia’s Caribbean coast designed for reefer exports.
Equipped with advanced handling equipment and modern logistics systems, the port reduces inland transport distances to Colombia’s main consumption areas and strengthens the competitiveness of the country’s agricultural exports.
Puerto Antioquia represents a strategic milestone for the CMA CGM Group in Latin America, complementing its network of 64 terminals worldwide.
Christine Cabau, Executive Vice President, Assets & Operations, CMA CGM Group, said: “The launch of Puerto Antioquia reflects the CMA CGM Group’s long-term commitment to Colombia and Latin America, as well as our ambition to support the region’s trade development and job creation enhancement, through efficient and modern port infrastructure.
“Following the acquisition of Santos Brazil, this project further strengthens our global terminal network in Latin America and reinforces our role as a trusted partner for customers and local stakeholders to support their competitivity on international markets.”

Located on Bahía Colombia near Turbo, the terminal offers direct access to Colombia’s key agricultural and industrial regions, including Medellín and Bogotá, cutting transport distances by up to half compared with existing Atlantic ports.
Its deep draft and direct quayside operations allow efficient handling of dry and refrigerated containers, bulk cargo, and vehicles, while multipurpose infrastructure and modern logistics reduce costs, transit times, and emissions.
Construction, which began in 2022, featured an innovative offshore design with a 3.8 kilometres viaduct connecting the onshore yard to an offshore platform capable of accommodating up to five vessels simultaneously.
The terminal is designed for vessels up to 15,000 TEUs and has an expected annual capacity of 650,000 TEUs, 2.5 million tonnes of dry bulk, 50,000 RoRo units, and 450,000 tonnes of general cargo.

Equipment includes three STS cranes, eight electric RTGs, 1,300 reefer plugs, trucks, scanners, reach stackers, and empty container handlers, supported by on-site security and anti-narcotics inspections.
Additional services, including bunkering and ship supply, further extend operational capabilities.
Puerto Antioquia expands CMA CGM’s presence in Latin America following its acquisition of Santos Brasil and adds capacity to the Group’s global terminal network, supporting more efficient and sustainable supply chains.
